When you see a sunset, how do you feel?  Close to nature?  Content?  Comfortable?  At , we design homes that encompass these feelings.  Plus a Shukka® home is distinctively your own.

The foundation of our approach in designing homes is the Shukka® Philosophy.  To be clear, we didn't invent Shukka®, we simply noticed it and now apply it to the designs we create.   You will see that form follows function in a Shukka® home, time and space are saved wherever possible, and creative healing spaces are distinguishable for each and every space

The following qualities are essential to improving the function and crafting the aesthetics of your home:

Cohesive Integration
We live in a three-dimensional world.  The design of your home should be visually pleasing from all points of view, not just your home's front façade.  Shukka® integrates the details of your home to have an unmistakable relationship from all views.

Continuity

The interior and exterior of your home compliment and reflect each other throughout the design.Shukka® designs from the inside out, creating continuity between these two often disjointed elements. This is paramount for interior functional space flow that conforms to the exterior design and is as important to the design as the foundation is to the stability of your finished home.

Entering Ease

Entering your home is not an afterthought in a Shukka® home.  Both the Main Entrance and the Mudroom Entrance are critical in establishing functional flow throughout your home.  The Main Entrance features comfortable benches to encourage easy shoe removal and coat pegs that allow guests to access their belongings more informally.  Mirrors, for that quick check at the door, also help add dimension and reflect light in an often small, dark space.

Typically used by family members, the Mudroom Entrance sets the stage for organization in your home.  This entry should contain ample storage and drop off spots for easier entry and exit.  It features items such as built-in lockersfor children's backpacks and a mitten dryer for winter wear.  Whatever your needs, Shukka® design will keep your Mudroom, and ultimately your whole home, clutter and maintenance free.

Merging

Moving between rooms is as important as the rooms themselves. With Shukka®, the amount of space needed to move between rooms is kept to a minimum and incorporated into the rooms whenever possible. Shukka® virtually eliminates the need for hallways. When hallways are required, Shukka® uses natural light or borrowed light from adjacent rooms to create an open space feeling.

Connection

The staircase has the potential to exemplify your home's design with extraordinary character.  It can also beautifully connect your living spaces as well as provide its own seating area or storage solutions.  Shukka® incorporates ergonomics into your staircase by decreasing the riser height and by increasing the tread width and depth to save you energy and to make each trip flowing and pleasurable.

Nourishment

Time with our families and friends is precious.  To encourage interaction with your family and friends, Shukka® opens up the public spaces in your home-your Kitchen, Living Room, and Dining Room.  This allows you to converse with others without being confined to one area and at the same time forms comfortable niches creating intimate spaces between the open interconnected areas.

Serene Solitude
In a Shukka® home, interaction with others is balanced with an individual's need for quiet private space.  A smaller room with a lowered ceiling, within/near a child's room or under a stair, encourages solitary play or space to get away from siblings.

Time and Comfort

In Shukka® , ergonomics are applied throughout your home to bring comfort to your daily life. From the Kitchen to the Dressing Room, Shukka® will improve the function of your home and enhance your life in ways you never knew were possible.

An off-limits room within or near the Master Suite encourages valuable time alone or together for couples.

A Shukka® Kitchen includes a raised countertop for greater ease in preparing and cooking meals.  A lower countertop helps when baking or in cooking with children.  The need to bend while loading/unloading dishes is eliminated with a raised dishwasher.  Step drawers are available at sinks and under high cabinetry to make them accessible for both children and adults.

Open Pantry shelving reveals the Pantry contents at a glance and reduces time and energy to stock. Plus, placing the Pantry near the Mudroom combining it with the Mudroom allows convenient access from the car and the Kitchen.

A Shukka® Dressing Room is more than a closet.  It eliminates an enormous amount of steps and work each day.  The Shukka® Dressing Room combines your clothing and dressing functions.  No more running back and forth from closet to dressers in the Bedroom or out to a Laundry Room.  Open shelving makes for easy retrieval of clothing without opening/closing drawers and doors.

A raised, front-loading washer and dryer within this room simplifies the chore of doing laundry while saving your back.  And pegs for "half-dirty" clothesmeans less laundry and less clutter.

Enlightenment
Whenever possible Shukka® creates light from all four sides of a room-even if only one window is used-to energize you and your home.  Light floods in from both the windows to the outside and from the "borrowed light" between rooms.

Windows are creatively placed to bring in the maximum amount of natural light as well as to compliment the walls of the interior and the exterior of your home.  Textured glass, art glass, or glass block is used whenever visual privacy is desired.  Mirrors are strategically placed to reflect even more light.

Flexibility
Planning for future needs, as well as for your needs today, is part of the customization of your home.  Elements like "Chameleon Rooms," that are designed to transform from one function into a completely different function as your needs change or your family expands or contracts, epitomize the flexibility in your Shukka® home.   Timeless design, together with a functional Shukka® space plan, also allows future owners to change features to suit their needs should you ever decide to move.

Less is More
By reducing the square footage of your Shukka® home while increasing the function of the spaces exponentially, you literally save time living there!  You also save money when building a Shukka® home.  How?  The money saved when you reduce the square footage is often times what you can spend to let enhance the character of your Shukka® home and improve the function of its vertical space through numerous details.
